Access Features

Access at BMEC is not perfect. There are fundamental design features of the building that create challenges to provide access to all areas as audience, staff and performers. We are doing everything we can to address these issues. We will update this page with information as improvements to access are made.

Level Access & Wheelchair Seating

For audiences, BMEC provides level access to the front door via a ramp on the park end of the building. The ground floor provides level access into ‘The Mac’ Theatre and into the BMEC Showroom. The ground floor provides level access to the Box Office and the downstairs Bar.

There is lift between foyers, Door 2 (back of stalls) and Door 3 (balcony) of ‘The Mac’ Theatre. This is a small lift and depending on the size of a wheelchair, often it cannot accommodate a wheelchair with a carer.

‘The Mac’ Theatre is a raked theatre space with allocated seating. It has one dedicated wheelchair spot in the front row of the stalls with another 8 removable chairs to allow for pre-booked ticket holders requiring a wheelchair spot. However, this location is looking up at the stage and may not be suitable to all wheelchair users. There are more removal seats with level access available in the back row of the stalls which can be removed for wheelchairs. Access to the backrow is via the lift to Door 2. The Balcony does not provide level access. All other seats throughout the theatre require steps.

The BMEC Showroom is a flexible space with multiple seating layouts. For the majority of these all seats have level access to them.

If you have questions about level access and wheelchair seating, please chat to the Box Office team 02-6333 6161. You might want to consider visiting beforehand to see the space to help inform your decision of where you want to sit.

Accessible Bathrooms

Audiences have access to one Accessible bathroom. This is located behind the green wallpaper wall in the downstairs foyer. This bathroom has a swing door only. There are no other publicly accessible bathrooms in areas for audiences.

Hearing Loop

‘The Mac’ Theatre and the BMEC Showroom are both equipped with hearing loops. Patrons with the T-switch hearing assistance facility in their hearing devices, simply need to turn on the T-Switch to connect with the loop. The Hearing Loop works in all seats in ‘The Mac’ and the BMEC Showroom.

Companion Card

BMEC is an affiliate of the Companion Card program. A Companion Card must be presented when booking.

For Performers

The Stage Door is located in the BMEC Carpark between the building and the park. There are five stairs from the carpark to the door. A second Stage Door is located on Courthouse Lane via the footpath which provides level access to ‘The Mac’ Theatre stage and dressing rooms. However, once inside the door navigation of a flight of stairs is required and very large wheelchairs might have some issues navigating the space.

There is one accessible bathroom in the larger Dressing Room 1.

The BMEC Showroom has level access from Courthouse Lane via the loading dock door and a small single door. There is no level access from the stage to the floor. There is no level access from the BMEC Showroom stage to the dressing rooms. All access is long and via several flights of stairs. There are no bathrooms with level access for performers in the BMEC Showroom without external paths.

Ticketing and Pricing

BMEC offers ticketing services online through bmec.com.au, over the phone on 02 6333 6161 and in person at the Box Office counter. This means we have some sort of ticketing access available 24/7. Payments may be made by Cash or Credit Card.

Pricing of tickets varies from event to event. Some events are presented by BMEC and others by presenting partners who hire the venues. BMEC does not set the pricing for presenting partners but does work with them to offer a BMEC Member discounted price in an attempt to increase access to all programs by ticket pricing. All BMEC presented events are subsidised tickets through the annual funding BMEC receives from Bathurst Regional Council and Create NSW.

Accessible Parking and Drop Off

BMEC has two accessible parking spaces within easy distance to the building.

These are to the left of the building just inside the driveway.

Directly in front of BMEC is a drop off and pick up point.
